Jolie-Laide 2021 Hawks Butte Vineyard Syrah - 96 pts

The 2021 Syrah Hawks Butte Vineyard is superb. Inky, rich and deep, yet also classically proportioned, the 2021 is so expressive today. Black Fruit, leather, game licorice, incense and chocolate build as this flamboyant, savory Syrah shows off its considerable allure. Hawks Butte seems perfectly suited to Scott Schultz. Give this a year or two to soften. What a wine! Steep Franciscan 2300 feet.

Baxter 2019 Weir Vineyard Pinot Noir - 96 pts

Both powerful and ethereal, this elegant, smoky, sour-cherry-imbued wine fills the palate with tangy, spicy flavors wrapped in grippy tannins and buoyed by nervy acidity. Aged only in neutral French barrels, it shows the classic tea and forest-floor aromas and dark plum and black-cherry flavors that expand with time in the glass. Best through 2030.

Williams Selyem 2019 Weir Vineyard Pinot Noir - 95 pts

Medium ruby-purple, the 2019 Pinot Noir Weir Vineyard offers deep, pure scents of raspberries, lavender, peppercorn, saline and autumn leaves. The medium-bodied palate is delicate yet concentrated, with a powdery, fresh frame, a rocky mineral streak and detailed floral flavors on the very long, spicy finish. This finessed expression comes from vines planted at about 1,200 feet in elevation in the Yorkville Highlands appellation of Mendocino County, where a lack of coastal influence results in extreme diurnal shifts.

2018 High Rock Ranch Syrah - 94 pts

Medium ruby-purple in color, the 2018 Syrah High Rock offers aromas of red and black cherries, dried herbs, earth, and mint. Medium bodies, it’s a fresh, crunchy style of Syrah wit pleasantly firm tannins and loads of floral nuance emerging on the long finish. All that fresh, youthful fruit makes this a great candidate for early drinking.

Williams Selyem 2018 Weir Vineyard Pinot Noir - 95 pts

This impressive and complex wine offers power and finesse. The enticing aromas run from clove and tobacco to cinnamon and cedar, while rather tight black cherry and black tea flavors dominate the palate. Firm tannins and bracing acidity form a great structure for aging. Best from 2025.
